About the event
As we approach United Way's 7th Annual #DoMore24 day of online giving, Shaw Community Center will be kicking off our campaign in style, at the Lincoln Temple, as we celebrate all things youth enrichment!
There will be FREE BEER, WINE, & SNACKS in addition to an exciting panel discussion starting at 6:30pm focusing on the power of youth education and important issues surrounding accessibility, representation, and participation within the Shaw Community. Speakers include: Sudi West, Executive Director of SCC, Wanda - owner of Wanda's on 7th, Cheryl Lofton, owner of Cheryl Lofton Tailors, and Kiah Lewis, former SCC student and journalist.
Shaw Community Center over 200 D.C. urban youth with intensive educational enrichment, tutoring, experiential learning, cultural education, and workforce development, with a goal of promoting self-sufficiency, identity, literacy and ongoing personal and family development. This #DoMore24, we have set an ambitious goal to raise $50,000 which would cover the cost of our new Workforce Incubator. SCC's Workforce Incubator will empower SCC's youth with the skills and experience they will need to become productive citizens.
We are encouraging each person to make a small contribution to Shaw Community Center that evening ($24 for DoMore24), but with each $24 donation you make, you’ll earn additional raffle tickets and be entered in a prize give-away at the end of the evening. We have really great swag from community-based businesses, and more!
If you cannot attend but would like to make a contribute to our #DoMore24 Challenge, you can make a donation starting on May 15th at: https://www.domore24.org/shawcommunitycenter
If you are interested in creating your own peer-to-peer fundraising platform for City Kids during the #DoMore24 campaign from May 15th - May 23rd, you can do so here:https://www.domore24.org/shawcommunitycenter and click "Create a Fundraiser for this Nonprofit."
