SCC is an arts organization that cultivates student engagement and creativity through STEAM. STEAM is an evidence-based educational approach that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Specifically, we offer arts and humanities and cultural identity instruction and train youth of all ages in the performing arts, media arts and media production. Within the STEAM framework, students better engage and connect with peers and staff when we offer culturally responsive, equity-based projects that pique their interests and affirm their lived experiences.
SCC addresses the needs of 150 children and youth, ages 5-26. Our target constituency is at-risk, low-income, minority (African-American (75%), African (10%), Latino (10%), and Asian (5%) children and youth; 45% are female, 55% are male.
