Since 1991, the Shaw Community Center (SCC) of the Potomac Association, United Church of Christ, has operated as a 501(c) (3) organization devoted to further enhancing the lives of children, youth and adults in the Shaw area.

Humanities

 Shaw Community Center humanities programs explore the big questions at the heart of the humanities – including law, politics, culture, civil rights, and U.S. history. 

Performing Arts

 SCC arts programs offer challenging, interdisciplinary activities in painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, music, theater and digital art, and other forms of artistic expression.  The programs are intensive and vary depending up the programs and ages of participants.

AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Shaw continues a tradition of quality youth development activities this School Year with programming in three main service areas. *Free Enrollment – with signed Parent Agreement and consistent participation in Community Meetings (2nd Thursdays monthly at 6pm)* (LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE).

SHAW COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Both staff and parents are actively involved in SCC programs.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Shaw hosts many programs and festivities throughout the year to include Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Parties, College Preparation for High School Students, and Digital Media Literacy Training.

The program is designed to prevent summer learning loss, and to enhance feelings of belonging.

SCHOLARSHIPS

SCC will award several $1000 scholarships in the Spring of 2019

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS DETAILS

This scholarship program was established in 1999 by Reverend LaVerne Gill in memory of her brother and was continued by Board leaders fellow members.

SUPPORT SHAW COMMUNITY CENTER

Make it possible for imaginations to be sparked, academic success to be achieved, self-confidence to grow, and wilderness areas to be explored.

Individual donors, foundations and corporations support our program operations. In addition, our founder continues to be personally and financially supportive of City Kids. Our programs are offered at little or no cost to the children.
